Boston Common, Founded in 1634, is America's first park on 50 acres and steeped in American History.  

Boston Common is a stage for free speech and public assembly

• This is the site where Colonial militia prepared for the Revolution in 1768.

• George Washington, John Adams, and General Lafayette came here to celebrate America's independence.

• In the 1860s, Civil War recruitment and anti-slavery meetings were held here at Boston Common.

• During World War I, victory gardens sprouted at Boston Common.

• During World War II, the Common gave most of its iron fencing away for scrap metal.

• In the 20th century, Charles Lindbergh promoted commercial aviation.

• Anti-Vietnam War and civil rights rallies were held, including one led by Martin Luther King, Jr.

• In 1979,  Pope John Paul II celebrated Mass at Boston Common


The Boston Common includes ballfields, a tot lot, and the Frog Pond, which provides skating in winter and a spray pool for children in the summer.

- Combine Boston Common with Boston Public Garden, Massachusetts State House, Park Street Church, Granary Burying Ground

- Wear good shoes as you will be walking a lot here in the Boston Common area

- If driving, then Boston Common has an underground Paid Parking Garage
