Getting to Stanley in Hong Kong

From Hong Kong Island Side to Stanley:

- Take MTR to Hong Kong Station (or Central Station)

- Exit D to Exchange Square Bus Terminus and take bus no. 6, 6A, 6X, 66 and 260

or

- From MTR Causeway Bay Station Exit F1 to Jardine's Bazaar and take green minibus no. 40. 

From the Kowloon Side to Stanley:

- Take Bus 973 from Canton Road in Tsim Sha Tsui outside Silvercord Centre.

- Exit any of these buses at Stanley Plaza near the Wellcome Market

Hong Kong Hop-on Hop-off Bus to Stanley Market:

The Hop-On-Hop-Off Bus offers the Aberdeen Stanley route. 

Please make sure you make note of the last bus time from Stanley.

Recommendation and Tips for Visiting Stanley Market and Murray House in Hong Kong

- Stanley has many bars and restaurants on its waterfront along Stanley Main Street.

- To the west of Stanley Main Street, past the amphitheater is Stanley Plaza.

   It is an outdoor shopping mall and community amphitheater.

   Especially on weekends, there are free concerts and events are held in the amphitheater. 

   You will find the Wellcome supermarket, Starbucks, Macdonald, and other local upscale shops. 

- Nearby Stanley Plaza is the Tin Hau Temple (Temple of the Queen of Heaven).

  Built by Cheung Po Tsai in 1767, it is one of the oldest temples in Hong Kong.

- Across the way from Stanley Plaza is the  Murray House, a Victorian-era building that was an officers' quarters of the Murray Barracks.

  The building was relocated to Stanley during the 2000s.  It currently used for a restaurant and shops.

- To the left of Stanley Plaza and Murray House is Blake Pier.  

  Stroll through Blake Pier and the promenade to enjoy the relaxed ambiance, water views, restaurants,

- You can also take a day trip to Po Toi Island. 

  Po Toi Island is the southernmost island of Hong Kong's 200 plus islands.

  Po Tai is a beautiful and good place to try the local seafood.  

  On weekends you can take a local ferry service from Blake Pier in Stanley   

- On the other side of the promenade from Stanley Plaza is Stanley's market.

  Stanley Market in Hong Kong is a popular tourist market.

  You will find an interesting array of little shops selling silk garments, sportswear, art, costume jewelry, and other souvenirs.

- Bargaining is a common practice here and is expected.  Here are a few tips:

  Begin with asking the price of the item you are interested in.

  Once the merchant states the price, ask if there is a discount? Or, state that it is too expensive and walk away.

  If the merchant goes down in price, bargain away.

  Make sure to bargain but only if you intend to purchase. 

  Determine the price that you are willing to pay, and which you think is fair to the merchant.  Don't go beyond that price!  

  Be ready to walk away politely, there is usually another stall carrying the same item.

  If you are buying multiple amounts of an item, make sure to ask for a discount!

- Make sure to have local cash on hand. Bring bill with small denominations.

  Bring a bag to carry your goods.

- The Stanley area even boasts about their sandy beaches.

  Stanley Main Beach has shark nets, life rafts, and lifeguards on duty during the swimming season.

  The official swimming season in Hong Kong runs from April through to the end of October and after October all the facilities are unavailable.
