The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is located less than 20 miles west of Las Vegas and takes about 30 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip.

The Red Rock National Conservation area is run by the US Department of the Interior Bureau of Land Management.

Red Rock Canyon near Vegas was designated as Nevada's first National Conservation Area. 

Red Rock Canyon area is an example of the beauty of the Mojave Desert.

The conservation area showcases a set of large red rock formations: a set of sandstone peaks and walls called the Keystone Thrust.

The highest point is La Madre Mountain, at 8,154 feet (2,485 m).

A one-way loop road, 13 miles long, provides vehicle access to many of the features in the area.

Several side roads and parking areas allow access to many trails located in the area.

Red Rock Canyon visitor center is located at the start of the loop road.

Recommendations

Bring hiking shoes as the rocks can be slippery! In addition, bring water and a snack.
Try to limit your outdoor activities to early morning and evening hours during hot weather time. (especially in Summer).

Get a Jr. Ranger badge from the center for your kids. 
Pick up an activity book at the beginning of your tour and return it completed when you leave for a nice badge as a souvenir of your time at Red Rock.

You can combine Red Rock with Bonnie Springs, a replica of an 1880 mining town or Spring Mountain State Park.
