Portland - International Rose Test Garden - Part of Washington Park

 

This garden has over 610 varieties of roses to enjoy and smell the roses while you tour the grounds.
There are 5 sections to explore; Royal Rosarian Garden, Shakespearean Garden, Gold Medal Garden, Rose Test Garden, and the Miniature Rose Test Garden.
Take the self-guided tour or a free guided tour offered at 1PM in the summer.

Getting There

 

From the city center of downtown

Car:
• Go to SW Lewis Clark Way
• Turn Right on Sacajawea Blvd (becomes Rose Park Rd)
• Follow signs to park

Mass Transit:
• Take the Trimet Max red or blue line from downtown to Beaverton/Hillsboro
• Exit on Washington Park stop. Take elevators up.
• Walk to the Zoo about 5 minutes and take the free shuttle (offered weekends, and every day in summer) to the Test Garden.

Recommendations

 

• This portion of Washington Park will take you 1 or 2 hours at most.
• Park your car for the whole day and see the whole park.
• Come early and take advantage of the free shuttle around the park.
• The park gets full fast after 10AM.
• Park by the Zoo. The stop for the Max is located here down the elevators.
• You can go take the Max downtown for lunch or dinner too by the Zoo.
• You will be walking outside most of the time so wear comfortable shoes, and bring water, and sunscreen/ hat.
• If staying downtown, buy an all day pass and take the Max to the Park.
