DMZ - Korean Demilitarized Zone

• The armistice in 1953 divided the Korean Peninsula into South and North Korea.
• The Korean Demilitarized Zone, DMZ, runs along the 38th parallel.
• This is an active military zone so civilian access to the DMZ is strictly controlled.
• Many areas are restricted to individual tourists but available through travel agency tour groups. Half day and full days tours are available.
• When visiting the DMZ bring your passport, or other types of I.D. documentation otherwise you will be turned away.
• There is no videotaping and limited photography.
• Highlights of the DMZ are:
-Riding the monorail into the 3rd Tunnel (Dug by North Korea secretly into South Korea).
-Dora Observatory (view North Korea through binoculars)
-Imjingak (Nuri Peace Park)
